Hillcrest Estate has latched onto the craft beer phenomenon that has spread through the Western Cape like wildfire. There are literally hundreds of brews available so one is not spoilt for choice.
Our craft beer is brewed by our retired wine maker Graeme Reed and according to Graeme ‘brewing beer is vastly different to making wine. If the wine is substandard you can blame the vintage. As for beer, there is only one person who carries the can and that’s the brewer! Consistency of quality is the trick and that is where the challenge lies. We have honed our skills using a 50L brewing system and have developed some interesting lagers and ales from the plethora of recipes available.’
These efforts have translated into the development of a microbrewery (2x500L capacity Fermenters) and a rustic outdoor beer garden. The brand, Granite Rock, is available on tap so why not come and sample the fruits of our endeavour.
The beer garden operating hours will be:
Friday’s and Saturdays: 15:30 to 20:00
Sundays: 11:00 to 16:00.
For the beginning it is estimated that the last orders for food will be taken at 18:30 and last rounds at the bar at 19:00.
The craft beers available are Red Ale, Weiss and Larger.
These beers will also be available in our restaurant.
The Hillcrest restaurant will offer a separate beer garden menu, and have the following available to eat (this will change due to demand)
